BCD is a wonderfully descriptive acronym for Boot Configuration Data, more importantly, it gives you control of what should happen when your Windows 8 computer starts.
This page explains the boot data and how, with care, you can edit the settings. The second point is that before we make boot configuration changes, let us list the settings so that we can understand the syntax, and appreciate the scope of the configuration data. My third point is now that you have had a look at BCDEdit, I strongly recommend you take precautions and backup or export the original settings.
Be aware this is not like editing an ordinary text file such as boot. Feel free to change to a backslash if you prefer. This utility will also guide you through troubleshooting; the dashboard will indicate whether the root cause is a broken link, faulty equipment or resource overload.
What I like best is the way NPM suggests solutions to network problems. Its also has the ability to monitor the health of individual VMware virtual machines. If you are interested in troubleshooting, and creating network maps, then I recommend that you try NPM now. With this 3rd party utility you can edit every bit of BCD. Also, it can automatically create Windows loaders, and even make a one click dual-boot repair.

When I tried to refresh computer after no solution found , I get error saying something like: PC can't be refreshed, because your disk is locked. I choose to install, after few seconds error: Bad serial number I submitted this window by clicking OK button. After submitting I choose Turn off computer in Windows installation menu.
Can you provide us with what you did to unlock the HDD? Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. The product key would be usually mentioned on the sticker in beneath your computer or above the battery section.
If you are unable find any stickers on your computer, then check for the purchase receipts or purchase emails. If you are still unable to find, you might have to contact the shop or vendor from whom you purchased the PC.
It is very important to have the product key to validate that you have a genuine copy of Windows. Product key would be needed in case you are going to upgrade the OS or perform any repair operations. So please contact the vendor and obtain the product key.
Some manufacturers also embed the product key in BIOS. Since Windows 8 came preinstalled, you can contact Asus support to collect the product key or a recovery disc in order to troubleshoot such issues on the computer. Does using an installation disc with Windows 8, reset all my Hard Drive or any files that will be deleted like pictures?

Now it's incorrect for both of the last two command types:. After examining this backup file in our Documents folder using HxD , our first reaction was: "Man, this thing appears to be full of all kinds of needless 'gunk'! So, the 'backup copy' is not really a true copy. And the differences go well beyond simply changing the path name of its location.
So why is this file so 'cluttered' compared to the Windows XP boot. Its first 4 bytes are a big clue: " regf ". DAT file begins with the same 4 bytes. To test this, we used a disk editor to alter the bytes at offsets 0x 1B8 through 0x 1BB in the MBR first sector of the disk drive by simply adding 1 to each byte.
In previous Windows versions, the OS would still boot up this way; even though there was the possibility some program that used the Disk Signature could then have problems. Note: The same error message, with Status: code of 0x ce , will also be displayed if we change those NT Sig. Only if you edit these bytes back to their original values will the PC boot-up again. It's also possible to see such an error if your PC is somehow directed to start booting from a drive other than the normal boot drive, and the BCD Store on that drive points to the first drive, which will obviously contain a different Disk Sig.
Because new Windows OS installs often make changes to a primary disk drive, even when installed to a secondary drive! Disconnect all but the disk drive you intend to install a new Win OS on, and in the future you will be able to boot-up the new drive all by itself or using a Boot Menu key without it depending upon some primary disk drive you decided to remove, or that has failed.
NOTE: The error shown above is a function of the bootmgr program!
