Since the time skip was only about a year, most of the Fairy Tail mages are mainly the same in terms of their characters and relationships. However, it will be pretty fun to see each of the main characters in new and hilarious situations. Expect to see Wendy and Carla working as idols for another guild, Gray in a cult, Juvia depressed about getting dumped, and Gajeel working as a cop with Levy as his partner. Nor will the anime explain how an entire country containing some of the strongest magic users in the world can go completely unmentioned for the vast majority of the series.
The fights in Fairy Tail are a blast to watch because they usually happen on such a ridiculously large scale and involve loads of grandstanding and trash talking.
This story arc will introduce the Spriggan 12 , a squad of nearly god-like mages with some of the strongest and deadliest magical abilities ever shown in the series. Of course, these magic users also have some pretty big personalities, and the clashes between them and our protagonists are some of the best in the entire series.
While some of these battles will be pretty straightforward and others strategic affairs, they will all appeal to fans of over-the-top anime action. In the final season, Natsu and his brother Zeref will finally face-off in an all-out battle, the guild will at long last take on the dragon king Acnologia , Natsu will come to terms with his newfound demonic identity, and some heavily implied and hoped for ships will become canon.
Admittedly, this ending might not be as hard hitting as it could be. Since the fanfiction mentioned earlier covers an unexplored period of the Fairy Tail story—at least a decade after the events of the original run—there isn't a ton of information to confirm or deny the possibility of the events being canon.
However, Hiro Mashima shared some sketches from New York Comic Con on Twitter in that could both lend credence to, and break from, fan theories. The sketches show concepts for Natsu and Lucy's daughter and Juvia and Gray's son. Unfortunately, Mashima also confirmed that the characters he drew were largely for the sake of fans and shouldn't be considered canon. If Fairy Tail: Next Generation isn't the future of the series, then what is?
As fans of the manga likely know already, Mashima began a spinoff sequel series in titled Fairy Tail: Years Quest. At present, four volumes of the series have been released in Japan, and it is licensed by Kodansha USA for an English release. Fairy Tail: Years Quest is still storyboarded by Mashima, and original illustrator Atsuo Ueda also returned for the project. The series is ongoing, although there is no indication how long it will run.
Depending on where the story goes, fans could be in for either one quest or a huge revival of the series. Fairy Tail ended with an obvious set-up for at least one sequel. A year after their battle with Zeref and Acnologia, Natsu and the gang agree to take on a quest left unfinished for one hundred years.
On the continent of Guiltina, they discover the mission will require the sealing of the Five Dragon Gods, a group of remaining dragons that, as usual, pose a massive threat to the world.
In addition, a girl named Touka joins Fairy Tail. She seeks to seize the power of the dragons because of the evil alter ego within her, the White Mage, sparking conflict with Natsu's team. Fans of the anime will likely be bummed to hear that there are no current plans to adapt Fairy Tail: Years Quest into anime form. Given the massive success and long tenure of the original anime series, it seems a sure bet that at some point the anime will return, but for now there is no official announcement.
Unlike Naruto with the exception of Shikamaru and Temari , the romantic relationships, in particular, felt real and earned. Lucy and Natsu, the two main protagonists, are Fairy Tail 's main ship known to fans as "NaLu" , but Mashima has always kept the jury out on their true relationship.
Although the original manga and anime series have ended, fans are still hoping for a NaLu confirmation in future Fairy Tail projects. For now, here's a breakdown of NaLu's history, and where the two end up by the story's conclusion. Lucy and Natsu share many charged moments, providing plenty of evidence that the two care for each other romantically. Natsu was the one who invited Lucy to join the Fairy Tail Guild, and from that scene forward, they had an immediate connection.
You could honestly write an entire book about all of these instances of romantic tension, but we'll stick to some of the more significant ones. In the Phantom Lord arc, Lucy called out for Natsu when she was falling from the Phantom Tower, knowing, somehow, that Natsu would save her.
That points to a special, almost telepathic, bond between the duo. In a filler episode, Natsu and Lucy went to each other's house to wait for the other and, despite being surrounded by friends they could hang out with, felt a pang of loneliness without the other there. And during the Eclipse arc, the anime's 15th Opening showed a notable NaLu moment in which Natsu went berserk after Future Lucy was killed, specifically promising to protect Lucy's future, not all of Fairy Tail's.
There are also the more general, recurring hints, beginning with the most obvious: Natsu has seen Lucy naked several times and hasn't exactly shied away.
